Alluvial Gold Mining Equipment List for Africa
A factory equipment checklist for small African alluvial gold sites, covering pumps, diesel power, hose, recovery mats, crusher limits and spare parts.
When a buyer asks us for a complete alluvial gold mining equipment package, we do not begin by adding every product in our catalogue. We begin with the deposit and the route: where the pay material comes from, how much water is available, where the pump will sit, how the material is screened, and how the gold-bearing fraction will be recovered.
Shandong Machen Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd. is a pump-centered manufacturer and package supplier. We manufacture and prepare WSA and LSA sand pumps and matching wear parts, then combine them with diesel power, mining hose, gold recovery mat and a small crusher when the site actually needs those items. Excavators, complete trommel plants, laboratory work and local civil construction are outside the scope of this package and must be planned separately.
Our Equipment List Starts with the Mining Method
“Small-scale gold mining” can describe very different jobs. A shallow riverbank operation moving sand and gravel is not the same as a pit collecting concentrated slurry, and neither is the same as hard ore that must be crushed before recovery. The equipment list changes with the material.

A crusher is not automatically part of a river gold package. If the feed is already loose sand and gravel, screening and washing may be the relevant preparation steps. We only add a crusher when the customer’s material description and process require size reduction.
The Practical Equipment List
The following list separates the products Machen can quote from the site equipment that a buyer normally arranges locally. That boundary matters. A supplier should not describe a few accessories as a complete processing plant when important site work is still missing.
1. Excavation and controlled feed
The mine needs a way to excavate and feed pay material at a controlled rate. Depending on the site, this may be manual loading, a small excavator, a loader or another local arrangement. Machen does not supply excavation machinery in the current package.
Feed rate must agree with the washing and recovery section. Sending irregular surges into a small screen or sluice can disturb water flow and carry valuable heavy material out with the tailings.
2. Screening and clay breakup
Oversize barren stones should normally be separated before the fine gold-bearing fraction enters recovery. Screens or a trommel may also help break up clay-bound material. The US EPA’s placer-mining technical material identifies screening and classification as important preparation steps and notes that clay and ore size distribution change the water requirement.
Our current catalogue does not include a complete trommel wash plant. The buyer should send the screen opening, feed rate and connection drawing when our pump must feed an existing screen or sluice.
3. WSA or LSA sand pump
The pump moves water, sand and fine gravel through the site. The WSA horizontal sand and slurry pump is our starting direction for a defined suction and discharge pipeline. The LSA vertical pump is reviewed when material sits lower in a pit, sump or tank and the pump needs to work close to the slurry level.
Outlet diameter is not enough to confirm the model. We need required flow, total vertical lift, horizontal distance, hose diameter, bends, suction arrangement, solids concentration and largest particle. 4. Electric or diesel power
Where stable electricity is not available, Machen can match selected pumps with ZS1105, ZS1110 or ZS1115 diesel engines. These published engines cover 18, 20 and 22 HP. That does not mean every pump in the WSA or LSA range can run from one of these engines.
We confirm the required pump shaft power and speed first, then review the engine, pulley ratio, belts and base. If the required duty is beyond the available single-cylinder range, the buyer needs a different power arrangement. Site elevation and daily operating hours should be included in the enquiry.
5. Suction, slurry discharge and clean-water hose
Hose is divided by duty. Wear-resistant rubber mining hose is reviewed for abrasive slurry discharge. PVC flat hose is used for clean or low-abrasion water supply where its construction and pressure rating are suitable. Suction hose must remain airtight and resist collapse under the expected inlet condition.
We ask for every hose section, diameter, length and connection. A package that lists only “100 metres of hose” is incomplete if no one has identified which part is suction, slurry discharge or site water supply.
6. Sluice arrangement and recovery mat
Gravity recovery depends on controlled feed and water. The EPA describes sluice performance as a function of slope, width, water depth, riffle arrangement and ore particle size. Its small-scale mining guidance also emphasizes that a consistent water supply is necessary for sluice operation.
Machen supplies gold recovery mat for use in a buyer’s sluice or washing workflow. Before quotation, we need the sluice width, required mat length, expected water flow and whether the buyer wants full rolls or cut sections. We do not promise a recovery percentage from the mat alone because the feed, classification, flow and sluice geometry remain part of the result.
For small sites, gravity concentration provides a practical route that does not depend on mercury. The US EPA mercury-free ASGM guidance and UNEP practical guidance provide useful safety and process context for mine operators.
7. Small crusher, only when the feed requires it
Machen’s small hammer crusher is a 15 kW, approximately 130 kg machine published for ore and gravel preparation. We ask for feed size, required output size, material description, expected capacity and power source before including it.
It should not be sold as a universal alluvial gold machine. If the site’s main material is loose river sediment, the first question is usually classification and washing. If hard pieces or cemented material must be reduced before the next step, then the crusher becomes relevant.
8. Pump wear parts and site consumables
A remote African site should not wait for the first shutdown before identifying the impeller and casing. For WSA packages, Machen can prepare slurry pump spare parts such as the impeller, casing, second section and pulley. The first shipment may also need sealing items, belts, connection gaskets and fasteners according to the confirmed package.
Tools, lubricants, fuel storage, electrical protection and general site consumables are normally arranged locally. The quotation should separate factory-supplied spares from local maintenance items so the buyer knows what remains to be purchased.

Three Package Directions We Commonly Quote
Riverbank pump and recovery support package
This direction normally starts with a WSA pump, suitable drive, suction and discharge hose, recovery mat and WSA wear parts. The buyer arranges excavation, screening, sluice construction and the site water circuit.
Pit or sump transfer package
Where material collects below the installation platform, we review the LSA vertical pump, discharge hose and drive. The buyer provides pit depth, normal and low slurry levels, platform drawing and discharge route.
Mixed equipment order for a dealer or contractor
A dealer may combine pumps, hose, diesel engines, recovery mat, selected crushers and spares in one shipment. In this case, every item is listed separately with model, quantity and intended use. We do not hide several unrelated items under one “complete plant” price.
What We Put into the Final Order List
Before production and packing, our order list should identify the pump model, inlet and outlet, planned drive, hose sections, connection pieces, recovery-mat quantity, crusher specification where included, and every spare part. The destination and packing method are written against the same list.
This document is important when several people are involved in the purchase. A mine owner may discuss the duty, a dealer may arrange payment and freight, and a field contractor may receive the container. If all three are working from a one-line “gold equipment package,” missing parts are easy to overlook. A line-by-line list lets the receiving team check the shipment and gives both sides a reliable reference for the next order.
Installation dimensions and local fittings should be reviewed before shipment. A flange diameter alone does not confirm the bolt pattern, hose end or locally fabricated support. We ask for drawings or clear dimensions when imported equipment must connect to an existing line.
Country Names Do Not Replace Site Data
Search demand is visible in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Ghana, but a country name does not determine the pump. A shallow river site in Zimbabwe can be closer to a Ghana riverbank project than to another mine in the same country.

Factory Quotation Checklist
Before requesting a firm equipment package, put these items into one message:
- Mining method: riverbank, shallow pit, sump, tailings or mixed ore preparation.
- Material photos, largest particle, clay condition and any available sample results.
- Required feed or slurry flow and expected operating hours per day.
- Vertical lift, horizontal distance, suction position, hose diameter and bends.
- Electric supply or diesel preference, including existing engine nameplate photos.
- Screen, trommel or sluice dimensions when the pump must connect to existing equipment.
- Recovery mat width and length, or the sluice dimensions used to calculate it.
- Crusher feed size and desired output size when crushing is required.
- Starter spare-parts requirement and expected delivery lead time to the site.
- Destination country, port or inland city and whether the buyer is a mine, contractor or dealer.
A simple process sketch is valuable. Mark the material source, pump, pipeline, screen, sluice, water return and tailings point. It allows us to identify which interfaces Machen can quote and which ones remain with the local site team.
Questions Buyers Send Our Factory
Can Machen supply a complete alluvial gold mining plant?
We supply a pump-centered equipment package: WSA or LSA pump, selected diesel power, hose, recovery mat, small crusher where suitable and pump spare parts. Excavation equipment, full trommel plants, laboratory testing and civil works are not part of the current standard scope.
Does every small gold site need a crusher?
No. Loose alluvial sand and gravel may need screening and washing rather than crushing. We include the small crusher only when feed size and material condition justify it.
Can the pump feed an existing sluice or trommel?
It can be reviewed after we receive the required flow, inlet height, pipeline route and connection drawing. The pump should be matched to the real equipment duty rather than selected from pipe diameter alone.
What should ship as spare parts?
For a WSA package, the first review normally covers the impeller, casing or second section, sealing items and drive consumables. Quantity depends on material, daily hours and freight lead time.
Our Position as the Manufacturer
Machen has worked in sand pumping and cast pump components since 2002. Our strongest contribution to a small African alluvial gold project is not claiming that we supply every machine on the site.
